Messier's hat

A Messier object is a star cluster or nebula, cataloged by the French astronomer Charles Messier. studied and created a catalog of over 100 star clusters as early as the 18th century. A telescope is needed to see most of them, but for example the Pleiades and the Andromeda Galaxy are visible without one. Messier's hat is inspired by the starry sky and the patterns in traditional Norwegian knitting. Like the star clusters, the entire hat is sprinkled with stars.

The hat comes in two sizes, 128m and 160m, see measurements.

The hat can be knitted larger or smaller by changing the gauge to fit both adults and children. This is done by using thicker or thinner yarn and needles.

SIZE 128m:

Yarn suggestion: Du store Alpakka Sterk / Viking Merino / Viking Alpaca Storm. Other yarns with a length between 105-150 m per 50 grams can be used. Check what gaugen the yarn is suitable for.

Color suggestion : Use colors with good contrast so that the pattern stands out clearly.

Yarn consumption: Color 1: 100 g. Color 2: 50 g. (The amount of yarn for color 1 ranges between 50 and 100 grams depending on the chosen length of the hat.

Needle suggestions: For a gauge of 22 sts per 10 cm: Short circular needle size 3.5 and 4 mm (The pattern is written based on 28 sts per 10 cm. Suggested needle sizes apply to this guage.) Other needle sizes may be needed to achieve the desired gauge.

Gauge: 26 (24) 22 sts = 10 cm in stranded colourwork.

Sizes: Can fit sizes 52-53 ( 54-57) 58-60 by changing gauge.

Measurements: Full length: 22-23 cm. The length is adjusted by adding or subtracting rounds on the pattern.

Circumference with gauge 26 (24) 22 sts per 10 cm: 49.5 (53.5) 58 cm

Across lying flat: With gauge 26 (24) 22 sts per 10 cm: 24 (26) 28 cm.

SIZE 160 m

Yarn suggestions: Du store Alpakka, Mini Sterk / Viking Alpaca Liten Storm / Drops Nord. Other yarns with a length between 160-210 m per 50 grams can be used. Check what gauge the yarn is suitable for.

Color suggestion : Use colors with good contrast so that the pattern stands out clearly.
