Mistletoe is a plant that grows on other trees. Since it stays green when the leaves fall from the tree in the fall, it is associated with fertility in many cultures, which is believed to be the reason for the tradition of kissing under the mistletoe. In Norse mythology, mistletoe stands for love and friendship as declared by the goddess of love and fate Frigg, and the white berries on the female plant are tears that she cried for her son Balder. The Mistletoe and Wine socks take their name from a song written for a London musical in the 1970s, based on Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Match Girl and later made famous by Cliff Richards.
