People started cultivating grain as far back as in the Stone Age and it did not take long before it became our most important source of food. Throughout the ages, grain cultivation has contributed to creating civilization and shaping cultures. Today, various types of grain are grown on a large scale all over the world. Every autumn, the grain ripens in the fields and farmers prepare for harvesting what will become everything from animal feed, Christmas cakes, bread, beer and cinnamon rolls.

Harvest mittens are a tribute to the grain and to the farmers who grow it. The pattern shows a ripe wheat field where time to harvest is just around the corner.
The pattern has two sizes that uses the same stitch number but has different gauge. Gauge is changed by using thicker/thinner yarn and/or needles.

Suggested yarn: Men’s size: Sandnes Peer Gynt / Rauma 3 traads strikkegarn or other wool yarn that gives 22-24 sts per 10 cm. Women’s size: Dale Lanolin wool / Rauma finull or other yarn that gives 26 sts per 10 cm.
Yarn amount for men (women): Colour 1: 100 (100)g. Colour 2: 100 (50)g.
Suggested needles: Pattern is written using 5 double pointed needles size 3,5 (3) mm. Different needle sizes may be needed for different gauge or if you don’t hit gauge using recommended needle size.
Gauge: Men (Women) size 22-24 (26) sts = 10 cm in stranded colourwork.
Sizes: Men (women) The sizes use same number of stitches but has different gauge.
Measurements in cm: Length cuff: 8,5-9 (7,5-8), Across hand: 12-13(11), Thumb base to tip: 8 (7). Full length: 31-32 (28). For other sizes, adjust gauge.
