Sonnavind hat is a warm and cosy winter hat, made in light and soft alpaca blend yarn. It has a double folded edge for extra warmth over the ears.
The pattern matches Sonnavind mittens.
The pattern comes in one size that can be changed by using different gauge. The hat can also be made shorter by taking away the first rounds of the main pattern.
Keep in mind that stranded colourwork is less elastic than knitting with one yarn.
To achieve desired gauge, it is recommended to knit a sample swatch. If the swatch has too many stitches in 10 cm, go up a needle size. If the swatch has too few stitches in 10 cm, go down a needle size.
Suggested yarn: DSA Sterk / Viking Alpaca Storm / Sandnes Alpakka / Dale Lanolin wool. Other similar yarn or wool yarn can be used. Choose yarn that gives the desired gauge.
Suggested colours: It is recommended to use contrasting colours to make a clear pattern.
Yarn amount: Colour 1: 100 g. Colour 2: 50 g. Colour 3: 50 g.
Suggested needles: Short circular needles size 3,5 mm (for a tighter rib, use size 3 mm on rib only). Different needle sizes may be needed for different gauge or if you don’t hit gauge using recommended needle size.
Gauge: 23-24 sts = 10 cm in stranded colourwork with needle size 3,5 mm.
Sizes: 56-59 (can be made for bigger or smaller sizes by for example using gauge 22 or 26 per 10 cm.
Measurements in cm: Full length: approx. 25 (can be shortened). Across when laid flat: approx. 27.
