Vestavind socks are thick and warm socks with the same pattern as the Vestavind mittens. The pattern is written for a gauge of 22 stitches on 10 cm, but also provides measurements for alternative gauge, so that sizes can be varied.
The pattern has 4 sizes, S (M) L and (XL). The sizes are only indicative, use measurements to find the right size. It should also be taken into account that colourwork knitting is less elastic than knitting with one color.
The pattern has two options for heel, stockinette stitch and reinforced.
Yarn suggestion: Sandnes Perfect / Viking Sportsragg. Other sock yarn with length of approx. 100 meters per 50 g can also be used. The socks pictured in the pattern are knitted with Sandnes Perfect.
Yarn amount: Color 1: 100g (100g) 100g (100g). Color 2: 50g (50g) 100g (100g). For shoe sizes larger than EU 37-38 (size S and M) and EU45 (size L and XL) an additional ball of color 2 may be needed.
Needle suggestion: 5 double pointed needles size 3.5mm.
Gauge: 22 sts = 10 cm in stranded colourwork.
Sizes: S/48m (M/52m) L/56m (XL / 60m)
Measurements (circumference): 21.8 cm (23.6 cm) 25.4 cm (27.2 cm) with a gauge of 22 sts per 10 cm. Measured at the widest point of the forefoot.
The sizes can be knitted larger/smaller by changing gauge, e.g. 24 or 26 sts on 10 cm. This is achieved by using thicker/thinner yarn and/or needles.
Measurements (circumference) using gauge of 24 sts per 10 cm: 20 cm (21.6 cm) 23.3 cm (25 cm). Measurements (circumference) using gauge of 26 sts per 10 cm: 18.5 cm (20 cm) 21.5 cm (23 cm).
