Vette-mittens

“Vetter” are supernatural creatures of nature in Norwegian folklore. They hide in fairytale forests, water and mountains and remind us that we must take care of and respect nature. Some are kind and protective, while others are capricious and will trick or punish anyone who doesn’t please them.

The pattern has one size that can be adjusted by changing gauge. This is done by using thicker/thinner yarn and/or needles.
Keep in mind that stranded colourwork is less elastic than knitting with one yarn.

Length can also be adjusted slightly by starting decreases one or two rounds before or after the chart indicates that decreases begin, or by adding / removing a few rounds in the beginning of the pattern.

To achieve desired gauge, it is recommended to knit a sample swatch. If the swatch has too many stitches in 10 cm, go up a needle size. If the swatch has too few stitches in 10 cm, go down a needle size.

Suggested yarn: Rauma finull / Rauma 2 tr gammelserie / Viking Frøya / DSA Alpaca wool. Other yarn can be used. Choose yarn that gives desired gauge.
Yarn amount: Colour 1: 50g. Colour 2: 50g.
Suggested needles: Pattern is written using 5 double pointed needles size 2,5 mm. Different needle size
may be needed for different gauge or if you don’t hit gauge using recommended needle size.
Gauge: 28 sts = 10 cm in stranded colourwork. (Mens size is approx 23-24 sts per 10 cm with thicker yarn and needles.)

Measurements in cm: Length rib cuff: 8, Across hand: 10,5-11, Full length: 27-28, Thumb base to tip: 7-7,5. For other sizes, adjust gauge
